With warmer weather, it can be confusing deciding how to adjust your skin care routine in order to feel comfortable. Factors like sweating, high temperatures and sun exposure can lead to dehydration and damage, especially if skin is left bare or with minimal protection. The key is to shift product choices or the amount you are using to create a lightweight feeling, while making sure to continue adequately hydrating your skin in other ways. Here are some skin care tips for making the transition easy:

  1. Always make sure to cleanse at the end of a hot day. Use the Oil Cleanser to thoroughly massage your face. It will lift impurities like the remnants of sweat, dirt, and sand, soothe and reduce inflammation from the heat and sun, and add much-needed hydration to the surface.
  1. Carry toner with you to spritz on throughout the day. Aloe and plant waters will help to soothe, calm and cool the skin. The toners will also add hydration while feeling lightweight. Choose between Bergamot Rose and Geranium Orange Blossom.
  1. If your day cream starts to feel too heavy in the heat, transition to using it as your night treatment. This allows skin to soak up the necessary hydration and calming ingredients it needs to recover from the day’s activities while you sleep. Using a richer moisturizer at night will also result in needing to apply less moisture during the day. Choose between Bergamot Rose and Geranium Orange Blossom.
  1. Consider incorporating a sunscreen for added protection. There are many great natural brands out there. Check out your local health food store for tons of affordable options. We also love Suntegrity at Health Hut, Coola at The Detox Market and Matter Company at Helen and Hildegard or Truth Beauty Company.
  1. Exfoliate regularly to aid in circulation, cell-turnover and absorption of moisture. This is useful for not only the face but the whole body as well. See our post on five ways to use our face and body scrub for exfoliating how-to’s.

If needing some inspiration, here’s an example of an ideal summer regimen for all skin types using Wildcraft:

Morning

  1. Wash with Oil Cleanser
  2. Mist on Bergamot Rose or Geranium Orange Blossom Toner
  3. Apply Face Serum  - use an amount that feels comfortable and not overbearing. Remember that if an oil serum is applied to damp skin, it will fully absorb and not feel heavy. 3-5 drops tends to be ideal. If you do have some dry areas, the face creams can be applied selectively where you need it. Choose between Bergamot Rose and Geranium Orange Blossom Face Cream.

Evening

  1. Remove eye makeup with Makeup Remover
  2. Wash with Oil Cleanser
  3. Mist on Bergamot Rose or Geranium Orange Blossom Toner
  4. Apply Face Cream as your night moisturizer and treatment. This allows your skin to soak up the necessary hydration and calming ingredients it needs while recovering from the day’s activities. Using a richer moisturizer at night will also result in needing less moisture during the day. Choose between Bergamot Rose and Geranium Orange Blossom Face Cream.
