how to: transitioning to natural skincare August 20 2018, 0 Comments

Natural skin care is becoming more and more common in the mainstream, which is surely something to celebrate, but we know that even though it has become more familiar, the idea of switching can still be daunting for some. We created Wildcraft with the goal of offering skin care that’s easy to incorporate for anyone wanting to have a healthy and effective option without it being intimidating or inaccessible. Everyone on our team has been through the process of switching from conventional products and has endured ups and downs, confusion, and feeling overwhelmed. Now that we’re tried and true natural skin care users, we wanted to pass along some of our advice for making the transition easier.

1. Be patient. / Don’t feel like you have to change everything all at once.

Adding one to a few new products to your regimen at a time is the best way to get used to them, and also assess if they are the right choice. Just like with conventional products, it can take some trial and error to find exactly what you love and works for you. Many people opt to replace their old products with a healthier alternative as they finish them - this is also a less wasteful way of going about it.

2. Eliminate guilt.

If you have some conventional products you’re obsessed with and want to continue using, it’s totally up to you! Incorporating natural and healthier options doesn’t have to be all or nothing. In our experience, many people eventually switch everything to natural over time, but it’s a process and if you keep your most beloved conventional picks along for the ride, it can be a helpful support in making the switch less stressful.

3. Enjoy the process.

Natural skin care is truly a joy to use and can often encourage people to love their morning and nighttime routines in a way they never have before. Take the time to savor the consistencies and use the experience as a means of relaxation and stress-release. There’s no better feeling than taking your time to massage an oil cleanser on your face, removing dirt, pollution and makeup after a long, hard day. The scents are all natural and can also act as aromatherapy.

4. Don’t expect natural products to be the same as conventional ones.

There are no “dupes” when it comes to natural skin care, which is a good thing! With high quality, all natural ingredients, the feeling and performance of the products are completely different. Keep an open mind, and you will be pleasantly surprised.

5. Read labels and ask questions.

If ever confused about what a product can do for your skin, all of the answers are in the ingredient list. With a bit of practice and familiarity with natural ingredients, you’ll start to recognize the heavy hitters, and over time be able to tell if it’s something you’re interested in adding to your routine. Find influencers or websites that you trust and gather information from there, while keeping in mind that everyone’s skin and body is different. Trust your intuition, and, if ever in doubt, seek advice.

These are just a few general tips for making the transition to using natural skin care. Go to our “going natural” page for more information about the products, how to take care of them and what to expect as you start to incorporate them into your routine. We’ll continue to post more advice and education on our blog, and if there’s ever anything specific you’d like to see here, please let us know!
